As of February 19, 2009, all analog television transmissions will stop should be replaced by digital television. Although this sounds like the odd change to make, there are good reasons for it.

More importantly, if you still get television programs over the air rather than through cable or satellite, you need to get a new TV or a box to convert the digital signal into an analog something your set understands.

Digital television allows for more efficient use of bandwidth transfer. In the transition ends on February 19, 2009, the space that analog broadcasts are required to be available for other purposes. Broadcasters can potentially use the additional space for additional services.

There are, of course, drawbacks as well. Too much compression in a digital format that can affect image quality. For those who are not yet ready digital TVs, television or converter box to purchase a new or cable or satellite television can be signed.

If you wish to adhere to their analog TV sets, not all news is bad. The government offers two $ 40 coupons for people who want to buy set top converters (ATSC tuner). They will be good to individual retailers.

If you already have cable or satellite TV, you may not need to do anything, especially if you have a digital subscription. I know that Cox cable is included in my regulations for cable television, although they did not want to, because they changed the service. If you are on a simple cable so far, it would not surprise me to learn that it rolls and in other areas.

Another problem with digital television is one familiar to those who have satellite and digital cable service already, it only takes a few minutes for each channel to boot, which can significantly slow channel surfing, if you want to see the photos. On the other hand, if it works as satellite and cable to do, you can see the name of the series in the bottom of the screen quickly, so channel surfing can not be too difficult.

For many people, this change will have no value associated with the acquisition of equipment. Cable companies and satellite TV providers working on necessary changes already, and consumers can check with their providers to see if they need to do. But those who get in the air broadcasts should begin to prepare, so they can take advantage of coupons, which will bear the additional costs of equipment.
